St. Andrea Kaggwa Parish celebrated a memorable Kaggwa Day on 6 June 2026, bringing together parishioners, parents, learners, and education stakeholders for a dual celebration: honoring St. Andrea Kaggwa, patron saint of the parish, and officially commissioning a new classroom block at Wisdom Centre Catholic Private Primary School under the theme ‘Routed in Faith, growing through education.

The celebrations began with a Eucharistic Celebration attended by Christians from all 47 Small Christian Communities of the parish. The Mass was presided over by the Dean of St. Francis Kanengo Deanery, Rev. Fr. Christian Muhineza, and concelebrated by Monsignor Patrick Thawale, Fr. Francisco Bisai, Fr. Emmanuel Zikabuma, Fr. Matias Modilamu, and Fr. Hopeson Sagawa.

New Classroom Block Commissioned

A major highlight of the day was the official commissioning of a modern classroom block at Wisdom Centre Catholic Private Primary School. The event attracted members of the school’s Board of Directors, management, staff, learners, parents, and government officials, all celebrating a significant investment in Catholic education.

Representing the Secretary of Education, Science and Technology, Lucy Magagula commended the Catholic Church for its enduring commitment to quality education and infrastructure development in Malawi.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, she described Wisdom Centre as a model institution that demonstrates excellence in both educational standards and regulatory compliance.

“The new facility sets a benchmark for private schools nationwide, and I urge parish authorities to consider establishing a secondary school in the near future,” she said.

Magagula further praised the quality of the new infrastructure, noting that it reflects the values and standards associated with Catholic education.

A Testament to Self-Reliance

Church leaders highlighted the classroom block as a remarkable example of community-driven development. The project was completed without external financial assistance, relying entirely on the commitment and contributions of parishioners.

Representing the Archdiocesan leadership, Fr. Christian Muhineza applauded the parish for its achievement and encouraged other parishes within the deanery to adopt similar self-reliant initiatives to strengthen Church development and service delivery.

“The successful completion of this project demonstrates what can be achieved when communities unite around a common vision,” he noted.

Gratitude for Visionary Leadership

Monsignor Patrick Thawale, Parish Priest of St. Andrea Kaggwa Parish and Director of Wisdom Centre Catholic Private School, expressed appreciation to the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lilongwe, George Tambala, for supporting the project. He also acknowledged the dedication of parish leadership and lay faithful whose oversight ensured the project was completed on schedule.

A Legacy of Academic Excellence

Wisdom Centre Catholic Private School continues to hold a distinguished place in Malawi’s education sector. Established as a nursery school in 1994, the institution graduated its first primary school cohort in 2004 and has maintained an impressive record of academic achievement.

For the past ten years, the school has consistently recorded a 100 percent pass rate in national examinations, earning recognition as the best-performing Catholic primary school in the Catholic Archdiocese of Lilongwe during the last academic year.
