Monsignor Patrick Thawale Urges Youth to Embrace Self-Reliance

The youth of Andrea Kaggwa Woyera Parish celebrated their Jubilee on Sunday August 17, 2025 during the 8:00 am Mass, with the universal theme of ‘Pilgrims of Hope’. In his homily, Monsignor Patrick Thawale, the Parish Priest, emphasized the importance of self-reliance among the youth.

Monsignor Thawale advised the youth to work hard in school and at their workplaces to build resilience against dependency syndrome. He encouraged them to take ownership of their lives and futures, rather than relying on others for support.

“For those of you still in school, college and university work hard. For those of you that have joined various industries work with determination,” he said.

The Parish Priest urged the youth to stop considering their parents’ wealth as their own and instead focus on building their own capabilities and resources. He emphasized that this mindset shift is crucial for their growth and development as independent individuals.

“Stop telling stories of the wealth of your uncles. Write your own story in life so that others would tell your story of wealth in future. You have the power to transform this country and start now doing it by being a man or woman of integrity,” he said.

Monsignor Thawale also addressed parents, advising them to train their children to be self-reliant. He encouraged parents to stop spoon-feeding their children in decision-making and instead empower them to take responsibility for their own lives. Additionally, he urged parents to teach their children the importance of caring for their bodily health and environment.

By promoting self-reliance and responsibility, Monsignor Thawale aims to empower the youth to become active contributors to their families, the Church and the country. As ‘Pilgrims of Hope,’ the youth are encouraged to strive for a brighter future, built on the foundation of hard work, resilience, and self-reliance.
